National Non-Profit Launches State-of-the-Art Website With Help Of Denver Firm

Boulder, CO - This week the Winter Sports Foundation, a national non-profit organization of Olympic and national-team winter sport athletes and coaches, announced the launch of its new website. The purpose of the site is to help children nationwide to learn more about winter sports and how to get involved in them. This online resource is the singular best spot on the web to learn about the sports seen in the winter Olympics. Its interface is a unique village metaphor that provides a inviting yet stimulating way of providing information to children. Coming features include buildings designed by architecture students at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

The site is designed, in part, and hosted by the Denver internet firm Hostworks, Inc. Working in conjunction with teams of students at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Hostworks employees oversaw the construction and development of the website. In particular, Hostworks established powerful back-end database and administration features that enable the website to render thousands of pages dynamically, and on-the-fly. This will be seen soon in the homepages of top winter sports athletes who will be able to update their pages from anywhere in the world, without knowing any programming languages, and have their changes immediately available to anyone who visits their pages.

After a year of planning, and well over a thousand hours of talented effort, the Winter Sports Foundation has finished phase one of the project, and should be looking at a very large invoice but they aren't. Hostworks, Inc. donated all of its consulting, development and hosting services. Paul Gilpatrick, owner of Hostworks, says, "We are proud to have been involved in such a great team effort".

"This project could not have been done without the selfless support of Hostworks", says Tamara St. Germain, Executive Director of the Winter Sports Foundation. "They been creative, responsive, and have worked long hours to get us to this point." Future work on the project will include live webcasts from the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan-, chat rooms for discussions with athletes; and the development of multimedia educational content.
